HBA 2023 Company Field Trip to San Francisco

Written by Maddie Wueste

From January 19th to the 22nd, 17 HBA students traveled to San Francisco for the annual HBA Company Field Trip. Due to Covid, this is the first time HBA has done this trip in three years! It was a great opportunity for BHP students to network with BHP alumni working in San Francisco, tour technology companies, and explore the city while connecting with their peers.

Thursday

The HBA students arrived in the hotel located in Palo Alto, California. After traveling to San Francisco, they met with two BHP alumni to go bouldering at Dogpatch Bouldering. This is a popular hobby in San Francisco, so it was a great opportunity to discover what alumni do for fun outside of work.

Friday:

The HBA students networked with many BHP alumni. First, they toured the Google campus with two BHP alumni, learning about the company’s opportunities in finance and technology. After touring Google, they met with a BHP alumni who is currently a business graduate student at Stanford University. She gave them a tour of campus and answered any questions about graduate school and her work at McKinsey & Company. Next, the students traveled to San Francisco for a panel with three BHP alumni who are working in start-ups. It was great to learn more about the different opportunities that BHP students may pursue in the future.

Saturday:

During the day, students had free time to explore San Francisco! They traveled to many tourist areas including the Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street, Chinatown, Pier 39, and Ghirardelli Square. In the evening, the students attended an alumni dinner with about twelve BHP alumni who currently live in San Francisco. This was a great networking opportunity for students to connect with alumni while learning about potential career opportunities.

Overall, the HBA 2023 company field trip to San Francisco was an amazing experience for learning more about the technology industry in the Bay Area. By connecting with BHP alumni, students explored different career paths and made worthwhile connections!
