Day in the Life of a CBHPeer Mentor
Hear what Aiden Brasov, a CBHPeer Mentor, has to say about his experience leading the CBHP community!
Q: What is it like being a peer mentor?
A: Being a peer mentor is one of the most rewarding experiences that I have had at the University of Texas at Austin in McCombs and within the Canfield Business Honors program. Reason being is because my peer mentor made a huge impact on me and I didn’t really know what I was doing freshman year or how to facilitate different relationships or what the college life was like or just integrating myself well. A lot of these little tips you might not necessarily know or necessarily asked to find out, are super helpful. I hope to instill that with other students and random tidbits of life advice. And I get to hangout with Tanvi.
Q: How has the semester been going for you thus far?
A: The semester has been super busy. Junior fall is kind of known as your busiest semester that you’re gonna have. You're very involved with organizations, you’re recruiting, your classes are hard, your friendships are kind of picking up, junior fall is like the season of love. There’s just a lot going on and you’re constantly running around. I think it’s fun because I finally feel like I’m fitting in and finding my groove. And I think this is the first year that I’m sad to leave honestly.
Q: What does a busy day look like for you?
A: A busy day is a day that I have to plan out beforehand. Usually, I’ll wake up on a busy day at like 8 since I'm not a super good morning worker. I’ll try to get all of my school stuff and class stuff done by 7 pm, so that’s like going to class; I work at SRD, so perhaps doing a dish shift there, you know, serving the ladies. At night, I’ll work on different clubs, group projects, or big projects coming up such as a paper or presentation. I'll spend my time doing that, probably until about 2 am at the EER and then I’ll turn around and drive back to my house.
Q: Take me through a typical weekday for you.
A: Typical weekday, I try to wake up at 9 or 8, depending on my class time, and then I go to class, go to SRD to eat, come back, and do different workflow stuff. I usually try to grab lunch with a friend, or a meal with a friend, or like to see someone everyday. At night, I’ll either have an event going on or I'll do homework, but I like studying with people, especially this year.
Q: What do you do to take a break from classes/to relax/for fun?
A: I love intramural sports. So, pickup basketball, ultimate frisbee, pickup soccer, rock climbing, hiking, swimming, cliff jumping. I really like doing some physical activity, and I like doing one physical activity a day. But kind of like a special 3 or 4 hours of doing that is really rewarding and then grabbing food with friends. Asian Fusion, check it out, it's pretty far but actually incredible. I like board games a lot too, so this is what beautiful relaxation would look like.
